A little secret, which technically isn't a horse The arrival
Benjamin knew he couldn’t hide it forever. For some reason Dini always seemed to know, no matter how casually he tried to act. Play it cool, so to speak. She had to have some kind of superpower, which made her know immediately each time when Benjamin had bought a new horse.
Except this time - it wasn’t a horse, technically.
It still wasn’t enough to sway Dini from his trail, unfortunately. As soon as he heard the office door opening he knew he had some explaining to do. Oh boy, here we go again…
“What is this!” Dini shrieked and waved a piece of paper in front of Ben’s face. “Another?!” “Calm down”, Ben said, and regretted it instantly. He knew it was the worst thing to do. Never, ever tell a woman to calm down, especially when she’s everything but calm to begin with.
Ben swore he could’ve seen smoke rise from Dini’s ears as the woman glared daggers at him. “I’ll calm down when you stop buying horses behind my back! How do you think we have time for all of them, with you cheap ass not wanting to hire a worker!” “Well… It’s not a horse, really.” “Benjamin!” “Okay, okay! My god, woman, you’re makin’ my ears ring!” “As I should! No, no - definitely not. You’ll cancel this purchase today, we will be not having a mule come all the way from Finland just because you can’t handle your impulse buying. Understood?”
As it turns out, it must have not been understood, because Bom did end up all the way from Finland to Ranch O’Hara. When the spotted long ear stood in the yard Dini stared at the docket. “Do you even know how to say her name?” she asked from Benjamin, who was more than happy with his little secret. Sure, the mule was green, and seemed to be nervous after the long trip, but nevertheless. It was his now. “No”, Benjamin laughed and petted the mule between its ears, which made her jerk her head away - obviously not well received gesture from Benjamin. “But who cares! It’s exotic and different, and people love those kinda things. That’s why we have all ‘em horses here anyway! Seriously Dini, it’s fiiine.” “Okay”, Dini sighed, defeated. “She can stay, I suppose. But only if you learn how to say her name.” “Deal. But we have to come up with a new nickname, ya know. I don’t fancy callin’ her just mule, that don’t seem roight.” “Pompula is cute.” “Yeah.. We’ll call her Bom. Welcome to Australia, Bom!”
